Antiferromagnetic interactions in single crystalline Zn1-xCoxO thin films

In a rather contradictory situation regarding magnetic data on Co-doped ZnO, we have succeeded in fabricating high-quality single crystalline Zn1-xCoxO (x=0.003-0.07) thin films. This gives us the possibility, for the first time, to examine the it intrinsic magnetic properties of ZnO:Co at a quantitative level and therefore to address several unsolved problems, the major one being the nature of the Co-Co interaction in the ZnO structure.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, accepted for publication in PR

Duality symmetry and the form fields of M-theory

In previous work we derived the topological terms in the M-theory action in terms of certain characters that we defined. In this paper, we propose the extention of these characters to include the dual fields. The unified treatment of the M-theory four-form field strength and its dual leads to several observations. In particular we elaborate on the possibility of a twisted cohomology theory with a twist given by degrees greater than three.Comment: 12 pages, modified material on the differentia

Antibacterial and antioxidant activity of methanolic extract of bark of Prunus persica

    Get PDF
In the present study in vitro antimicrobial and antioxidant activities of Prunus persica family rosaceae were carried out from the bark extract of the plant. The methanolic extract was tested for their antimicrobial study against gram positive and gram negative bacteria and for their antioxidant activity using scavenging activity of DPPH (1,1 diphenyl-2-picrylhydrozyl) radical method. The plant extract showed remarkable antibacterial and antioxidant activity

Stress Indices for Non-Radial Branch Connections for Piping

    Get PDF
AbstractProcedure for determining the stress indices for non radial branch connections is discussed. A typical non radial branch connection, commonly used in the piping system of FRFCF is modeled and analyzed using CAST-3M for calculation various stress indices for the connection. B2 Stress indices for the branch connection for in plane bending and out of plane bending is arrived at based on nonlinear finite element analysis and limit load approach. K2 factor is determined using Peterson's curve, based on the curvature at the junction of run pipe and branch connection. Stress index C2 and the stress intensification factor i are determined by employing the relations of these factors with other stress indices

    Principal infinity-bundles - General theory

    Get PDF
The theory of principal bundles makes sense in any infinity-topos, such as that of topological, of smooth, or of otherwise geometric infinity-groupoids/infinity-stacks, and more generally in slices of these. It provides a natural geometric model for structured higher nonabelian cohomology and controls general fiber bundles in terms of associated bundles. For suitable choices of structure infinity-group G these G-principal infinity-bundles reproduce the theories of ordinary principal bundles, of bundle gerbes/principal 2-bundles and of bundle 2-gerbes and generalize these to their further higher and equivariant analogs. The induced associated infinity-bundles subsume the notions of gerbes and higher gerbes in the literature. We discuss here this general theory of principal infinity-bundles, intimately related to the axioms of Giraud, Toen-Vezzosi, Rezk and Lurie that characterize infinity-toposes. We show a natural equivalence between principal infinity-bundles and intrinsic nonabelian cocycles, implying the classification of principal infinity-bundles by nonabelian sheaf hyper-cohomology. We observe that the theory of geometric fiber infinity-bundles associated to principal infinity-bundles subsumes a theory of infinity-gerbes and of twisted infinity-bundles, with twists deriving from local coefficient infinity-bundles, which we define, relate to extensions of principal infinity-bundles and show to be classified by a corresponding notion of twisted cohomology, identified with the cohomology of a corresponding slice infinity-topos. In a companion article [NSSb] we discuss explicit presentations of this theory in categories of simplicial (pre)sheaves by hyper-Cech cohomology and by simplicial weakly-principal bundles; and in [NSSc] we discuss various examples and applications of the theory.Comment: 46 pages, published versio

Magnetic Anisotropy of Co2+ as Signature of Intrinsic Ferromagnetism in ZnO:Co

We report on the magnetic properties of thoroughly characterized Zn1-xCoxO epitaxial thin films, with low Co concentration, x=0.003-0.005. Magnetic and EPR measurements, combined with crystal field theory, reveal that isolated Co2+ ions in ZnO possess a strong single ion anisotropy which leads to an "easy plane" ferromagnetic state when the ferromagnetic Co-Co interaction is considered. We suggest that the peculiarities of the magnetization process of this state can be viewed as a signature of intrinsic ferromagnetism in ZnO:Co materials.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure

Perception and Interpretation of Components of Architectural Composition of Selected Urban Centres - Jos Metropolis, Nigeria

    Get PDF
The study investigated the perception and interpretations of components of architectural composition of selected urban centres of Jos metropolis with the view to develop a planning strategy that will provide policy makers, architects and planners in emerging the necessary policies of urban planning and design. This concept was the focal problem the study sought to investigate scientifically. By dint of the simple random sampling, the study selected five neighbourhoods out of the existing eight namely; Anglo-Jos ward, Tudun Wada ward, Tafawa Balewa ward, Vander Puye ward and Zaria Crescent ward. From the five selected wards a total sample of 365 respondents was determined as the sample size for the investigation. Structure interview were employed in obtaining the required data of the perception and interpretations of components of architectural composition of selected urban centres of Jos. The outcome of the investigations provides a basis for notional significances, perceptual awareness, and planning instruments that can sustain the improvement and development of infrastructure and resources of the built environments of Jos urban centres and perhaps Nigerian urban centres. Keywords: perception, interpretation, urban centres, components and architectural compositio

Hypermatrix factors for string and membrane junctions

The adjoint representations of the Lie algebras of the classical groups SU(n), SO(n), and Sp(n) are, respectively, tensor, antisymmetric, and symmetric products of two vector spaces, and hence are matrix representations. We consider the analogous products of three vector spaces and study when they appear as summands in Lie algebra decompositions. The Z3-grading of the exceptional Lie algebras provide such summands and provides representations of classical groups on hypermatrices. The main natural application is a formal study of three-junctions of strings and membranes. Generalizations are also considered.Comment: 25 pages, 4 figures, presentation improved, minor correction

ZnO:Co Diluted Magnetic Semiconductor or Hybrid Nanostructure for Spintronics?

We have studied the influence of intrinsic and extrinsic defects in the magnetic and electrical transport properties of Co-doped ZnO thin films. X ray absorption measurements show that Co substitute Zn in the ZnO structure and it is in the 2+ oxidation state. Magnetization (M) measurements show that doped samples are mainly paramagnetic. From M vs. H loops measured at 5 K we found that the values of the orbital L and spin S numbers are between 1 and 1.3 for L and S = 3/2, in agreement with the representative values for isolated Co 2+. The obtained negative values of the Curie-Weiss temperatures indicate the existence of antiferromagnetic interactions between transition metal atoms.Comment: To be published in Journal of Materials Scienc

Twisted topological structures related to M-branes

Studying the M-branes leads us naturally to new structures that we call Membrane-, Membrane^c-, String^K(Z,3)- and Fivebrane^K(Z,4)-structures, which we show can also have twisted counterparts. We study some of their basic properties, highlight analogies with structures associated with lower levels of the Whitehead tower of the orthogonal group, and demonstrate the relations to M-branes.Comment: 17 pages, title changed on referee's request, minor changes to improve presentation, typos correcte
